Developing systems-based interventions
for intimate-partner financial abuse
This ARC funded Discovery project (2024-2026), entitled ‘Prioritising women’s financial safety: Developing institutional interventions for intimate partner financial abuse project addresses the significant national problem of intimate partner financial abuse, which continues long after women leave abusive relationships.
It works with frontline service providers and victim-survivors to identify how financial abuse is perpetrated through financial, legal and government systems, and develops a framework for understanding post-separation financial violence. It harnesses policymakers' and practitioners' expertise through co-design workshops to develop practical solutions and a framework to implement them. The application of Safety by Design principles within implicated systems will benefit affected families, by closing down avenues for the perpetration of financial abuse.
